Lady Bears lose Heartbreaker to JCSU

CHARLOTTE, NC - In an intense volleyball match Monday evening, the Bears of Clinton College faced off against the Div. II Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University. Clinton started strong, winning the first two sets 25-20 and 25-23. However, the Golden Bulls made a stunning comeback, taking the next two sets 25-17 and 25-15.

The final set was a nail-biter, with Golden Bulls clinching the victory 15-13, securing the match 3-2 overall. Clinton totaled 39 kills hitting .266 with 20 aces while JCSU had 50 kills and hit .379. CC got out to a 7-3 lead in the final set before JCSU went on a 9-2 run to go up by three and hang on for the victory.

Freshman setter/OH Sierra Faulkner led the Bears with 12 kills, 5 aces, 3 assists and 3 digs while hitting .194 with a block. Junior OH Amoni Washington also played well recording 11 kills hitting .444 with two assists, an ace and three digs.

Middle Blocker Monica Burns posted 7 kills with 4 assists hitting .313 while senior setter Vanja Tomic made her season debut and registered 16 assists, a career-best 10 aces, with 3 kills and 4 digs. Libero Love Landon and DS Ashanti Washington also combined for 12 digs, 4 aces, 6 assists, and 2 kills.

Clinton falls to 5-2 with the loss and will next head to Greenville, SC for the Bob Jones University Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The Bears open with host BJU at 3PM Friday and Regent (Va.) at 5PM. They will then play Boyce College (KY) at 10 am Saturday as well as Brevard College (NC) at 2 pm.
