Golden Bear Volleyball Rallies to Top Columbia in 4 Sets

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Clinton College volleyball team rallied from an early set down to put away the Koalas of Columbia College in four sets on the road Tuesday evening.

Columbia won the first set 25-21 before the Golden Bears took the second 25-17 on 9 kills hitting .190. Clinton then held off a valiant Koala rally in the third set to take it 25-20 before Clinton closed it out 25-11 in the fourth to pick up the win on 14 kills making just one error.

Columbia totaled 41 kills in the match to Clinton's 35, but the Koalas made 40 attack errors while Clinton hit .137 for the match making just 21 errors while producing 55 digs and 11 blocks on the defensive side.

Junior OH Sierra Smith led the Bears with another double-double of 10 kills and 14 digs hitting .172 while fellow hitter Amoni Washington had a team-high 11 kills with 7 digs and a block.

Freshman setter Sierra Faulkner then played an all-around solid game totaling 27 assists with 5 kills, 2 aces, 3 digs and 2 blocks. Junior DS Ashanti Washington then led the team with 17 digs along with two aces while junior libero Love Landon had 12 digs.

Middle blockers Alexia Cunningham and Monica Burns also combined for 9 kills and 8 blocks with Burns producing a career-high 7 blocks herself with 2 aces. 

Clinton improves to 3-0 while Columbia fell to 0-4. The Bears will next remain home to host NCAA Div. II foe, Allen University on Thursday at 6:30 pm.
