Top Seeded Clinton Routs Paine to Advance to Region Championship

ROCK HILL, S.C. - The top-seeded Clinton College women's basketball team rolled to an easy 87-52 win over 4th seeded Paine College (Ga.) in the semifinals of the NCCAA South Region Tournament Tuesday night. The tournament is being played at the beautiful Rock Hill Sports & Events Center.

With 8th ranked Clinton's 13th straight win, the Golden Bears, 21-3, now advance to the championship game on Wednesday night against 2nd seeded Carolina University (NC) at 7 pm. 

Clinton was led by a balanced scoring attack on the night with three ladies finishing in double-figures: guards Tameah Gaddis and Akiyonna Joiner with 14 and 12 points respectively, along with senior center Diamond Moore-Heath scoring 14 points as well. Starting guards Jala Hutchins and Kayla Pope then combined for 13 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists, and 3 steals.

Senior forward Kourtney English added 8 points and 8 rebounds with 2 assists and 3 steals while Joiner also recorded 5 assists and 2 steals off the bench. The twins duo of Jabrica and Shabrica Leslie combined for 8 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 5 steals in the win as well. Forwards Symone Jackson and Alesha Canady combined for 14 points off the bench and 10 rebounds while Canady blocked three shots.

Clinton got out to a tremendous start running out to a 24-2 lead and a 30-7 lead after one quarter while going into the half up 49-21. Clinton then outscored the Lions in the second half 38-31 as well. CC shot 49.5% percent from the floor while making 40 shots and limiintg Paine to just 20 baskets.
