Clinton Women Build Big Lead, Hold on to Oust SMC

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Clinton College women's basketball team went on the road and defeated NAIA foe Spartanburg Methodist (S.C.) 76-67 on Thursday evening.

The Golden Bears (16-3) were able to put four in double-figures in the win. Junior guard Tameah Gaddis led Clinton with 18 points while senior center Diamond Moore-Heath added 15. Senior forward Kourtney English also had a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds while Jabrica Leslie had 10 points off the bench. Senior guard Kayla Pope also added 8 points and 3 assists.

Clinton won the opening quarter 17-10. The Golden Bears then ended the opening half 27-15 to take control of the contest going up 44-25 at the break. Clinton stretched the lead to as much as 23 in the third quarter. SMC won the second half 42-32 but it did not matter in the end.

The Pioneers rallied to make it a seven-point game at 66-59 but the Golden Bears came back with an 8-2 spurt to spoil the comeback hopes for the Pioneers. Clinton shot nearly 45% overall and 43% from three and 82 percent from the foul line while outrebounding SMC 36-31 and forcing 23 Pioneer turnovers.

Clinton will now look to continue their winning ways when they head to Greenville to battle NCCAA foe Bob Jones Univ. (9-19) on Monday evening at 7 pm.
