Clinton Women Use Big First Half to Defeat Paine

AUGUSTA, Ga. - The Clinton College women's basketball team picked up their 6th win of the season on the road Tuesday evening defeating NCCAA South Region foe, Paine College 81-66.

The Lady Bears finish the season 6-15 overall and 1-4 in the South and will wait to see if they qualify for the NCCAA South Region tournament next week at Carolina University (N.C.).

Freshman guards Maiya Petit and Kaelin Davis led the Bears with each scoring over 20 points apiece and combining for 44 on the night. Petit scored 23 with a team-best 9 rebounds along with 2 assists while Davis added 21 points and a season-high eight steals.

Clinton shot 41 percent as a team while holding Paine to just 35 percent from the floor and only 15 percent from long range. The Bears got out to a solid 24-14 lead after the first quarter before also outscoring the Lions 19-14 in the second to lead 43-28 at the break.

CC then won the third frame 17-16 to lead 60-44 going into the fourth while Paine could not get to within 12 points for the rest of the game. Also playing well for the Bears was sophomore forward Jasmine Jenkins with 13 points and 9 rebounds with 3 steals while sophomore point guard Jakyiiah Willis added 12 points, a career-high 9 assists, 6 rebounds and 6 steals.
