Virginia Union too much for Lady Bears

ROCK HILL, S.C. - The Clinton College women's basketball team dropped their final home game of the season on Saturday afternoon falling 88-58 to NCAA Div. II foe, Virginia Union from J.W. Martin Gym.

VUU got off to a fast start leading 12-0 and 25-10 after the first quarter. VUU then pushed their lead to 35-14 in the second quarter before Clinton ended it on a 11-6 run to trail 41-25 at the break.

VUU, now 17-9, then outscored the Bears 21-14 in the third quarter to lead 62-39 going into the fourth. The teams then combined for 45 points in the fourth with the Panthers winning it 26-19. Union shot 49 percent for the game while Clinton shot 43 percent but struggled from the 3-point line and the free-throw line.

Clinton was led by 23 points and 6 rebounds from sophomore forward Jasmine Jenkins while guard Jakyiiah Willis added 10 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals, and a block.

Also finishing in double-figures was freshman guard Kaelin Davis who scored 18 points with 4 assists and 3 steals. Freshman guard Maiya Petit led the team with 7 rebounds as well.

Clinton falls to 5-15 overall and will next go on the road Tuesday to Paine College (Ga.) to finish out their regular season. Tip off is set for 5:30 pm.
