Jasmine Jenkins Named WBB Student of the Month for January

January Student Athlete of the Month - Women's Basketball

Jasmine Jenkins

The month of January was outstanding for sophomore guard/forward Jasmine Jenkins as she helped the Lady Golden Bears women's basketball team earn two wins. The women's team first dropped a heartbrekaing 69-66 loss at home to Wilberforce where Jenkins posted a massive doulbe-double of 22 points and 16 rebounds. Jenkins then scored 16 points with 7 boards in the loss at Carolina Univ. Next, the team then traveled to Greenville, SC where they played in the HBCU MLK Invitational for the first time. Unfortunately, the Lady Bears fell short to Paine College with Jenkins scoring 6 points with 5 rebounds. Clinton then knocked off Voorhees by three for their first win of the month on the 15th.

The entire month of January was led by Jasmine Jenkins , who is averaging 12.1 points and 6.9 rebounds at this time, as she scored 17 points with 12 rebounds in the thrilling rematch with Carolina on the 20th before putting up 22 points and 16 rebounds in the 5-pt loss at Bob Jones. She finally ended the month with 21 points and 11 rebounds in the win over Voorhees.

Over the last 3 games of January, Jenkins averaged double figures each game (20 pts/g). Her team is ranked 2nd in the NCCAA for scoring defense as they only allow teams to an avg. of 56.9 points per game.

"Jenkins is the motor for our team," said coach Quick. "She is a big guard who can play inside and out. She is a player who does not mind stepping up and doing whatever it takes to win a game while still scoring and rebounding at a high level as well."

Congratulations to Jasmine Jenkins for being named the Women's Student Athlete of January.

Jenkins' career goals after graduation is to become a nurse, and then eventually get into coaching part-time. She is inspired most by her mother, as "she is a person that makes things happen no matter what is going on in her life. She is my WHY," said Jasmine.

If Jasmine could have dinner with anyone it would be Erykah Badu and they would enjoy Mexican food and especially some Chipotle.

Jenkins chose Clinton because it was a quality program, and her recruiting visit made her feel like family. Clinton is her "home away from home!"

Jasmine's fondest memory at Clinton was last season when they flew to New York City for basketball games and when Coach Quick took them to Times Square. She is thankful for coach because later that night, he threw her twin sister and herself a surprise birthday party!
