Lady Bears Rally Late to Knock off Voorhees

ROCK HILL, S.C. - The Clinton College women's basketball team showed tremendous resiliency in coming back from a 10-point deficit to end the game on a 15-0 run to stun NAIA foe Voorhees University 64-59 at home Tuesday night.

Clinton was led by sophomore forward Jasmine Jenkins' double-double of 21 points and 11 rebounds while guard Jakyiiah Willis , pictured below, also scored 21 points along with a career-high 8 steals, 4 assists and 4 rebounds. Point guard Kaelin Davis played well also scoring 18 points with 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals. 

The Lady Bears got out to a decent start scoring 22 points in the first quarter to lead 22-19. Voorhees then picked up their play in the second quarter outscoring the Bears 17-9 to take a 36-31 lead at the break.

In the third quarter the teams traded buckets and only combined for 21 points as Voorhees would lead 47-41 heading to the fourth. Then in the fourth, Voorhees began the quarter outscoring the Bears 12-8 to lead 59-49 with just over four minutes to play. Clinton then picked up their defense and dug in their heels to to hold the Lady Tigers scoreless for the remainder of the game going on a game-winning 15-0 run to grab the shocking victory. The big run featured 8 free throws made and a big three from Willis along with two jump shots from Jenkins and Davis. Clinton outscored Voorhees 23-12 in the fourth.

Clinton only shot 29 percent for the game but made six threes compared to VU's three treys while CC also made 14 free throws, which was 8 more than Voorhees providing the difference in the game.

Clinton's victory improves them to 3-13 on the season while VU drops to 5-15. The Bears will remain home to host another NAIA foe in Morris College on Friday at 6:00 pm.
