Clinton Men go 1-1 to Finish Season

ROCK HILL, SC - The Clinton College men's basketball team fnished out their season last weekend by going 1-1 getting a win over Carolina Christian (NC), but falling to region rival Paine College (Ga.) on Saturday.

The Golden Bears finished their season with a winning record at 13-12 and 3-6 in the South Region. Unfortunately, they did not qualify for the postseason South Region Tournament that will be hosted by CIU next week. CIU (19-7) is the 1 seed followed by Fort Lauderdale (FL) (16-8) as the 2 seed and Paine (16-5) as the 3 seed.

CLINTON 101, C. CHRISTIAN 83

The Bears domainted the Centurions on Friday night rolling to the 22-point win as they put up 56 points in the first half and 47 in the second half outscoring CCC by 14 in the first and by 8 in the second. Clinton shot nearly 56% overall and 35% from three. Clinton also outrebounded Carolina by an astounding 57-27 margin along with 24 offensive boards.

Freshman wing Cori Miller led the Bears witn 23 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists while guard Karter Allen tallied 21 points with 3 steals. Also playing well was junior captain, guard Jordan Snipes Campbell with 15 points and 4 assists on 6 of 8 shooting while junior forward Devinir Garvey added 15 points and 11 rebounds with 3 blocks off the bench.

Senior wing Jordan Maxwell and guard Jordan Miller also combined for 10 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists in the win while sophomore guard Taylan Hicks posted 7 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists off the bench.

PAINE 91, CLINTON 83

Clinton then fell at home to Paine on Saturday afternoon going down by 8 points. Paine took the halftime lead going up 12 at 40-28 before the Bears posted 55 points in the second half but allowed 51 in the defeat. 

Clinton shot 41.5% overall but just 26% from three while Paine shhot 45.5% while making 1/3 of their threes. Clinton also did well at the free-throw line making 17 of 21. CC was led by Garvey and his double-double of 18 points and 15 rebounds with 4 assists and 6 blocks while forward Matthew Cleveland added 20 points, 5 rebounds and 2 blocks off the bench. Sophomore wing Jacobi Simpson also posted 17 points off the bench. 

Jordan Miller led with 6 assists and scored 6 points with 2 steals while K. Allen had 9 points, 3 assists and 3 steals. Hicks added 7 points and 3 steals as well.
