
FORT LAUDERDALE, FL - The Clinton College men's basketball team lost 85-69 on the road at South Region foe Univ. of Ft. Lauderdale (FL) on Saturday afternoon.
UFTL led 40-30 after the first half and the undermanned Golden Bear squad could get no closer than nine points in the second half as the Eagles outscored CC 45-39.
Clinton shot 47% overall and was led by 19 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 2 steals from guard Jordan Miller and 12 points from sophomore forward Lamondo Cargile. Small Forwards Jordan Maxwell and Cori Miller also combined for 14 points with Miller adding 3 assists while sophomore wing Jacobi Simpson added 4 points and 4 assists as well.
Junior center Devinir Garvey also registered 10 points, 7 reboiunds and 3 blocks off the bench while freshman guard Taylan Hicks had 7 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals.
VU 109, CC 99, 3OT
DENMARK, SC - The Golden Bears lost a heartbreaking non-region NAIA game at Voorhees University last Monday going down in 3 overtimes, 109-99.
CC got off to a good start leading 44-34 at halftime. However, VU would rally in the second half and hold the Bears to under 30 points outscoring them 39-29 to force overtime tied at 73 apiece. The teams then traded 11 points in the first overtime and headed to the second tied at 84 apiece. Each squad would then score 9 points apiece inthe 2nd OT to head to the third OT tied at 93 each as the Bears rallied from a six-point deficit to force the third frame. Unmfortunetly, the bears tan out og gas in the third extra period getting outscored 16-6.
Clinton shot 51 percent overall and 45 percent from three while the Tigers shot 56% overall and 31 percent from three. CC also outrebounded VU 39-36. Clinton was led by 27 points and 9 rebounds from junior guard Jordan Snipes Campbell while Maxwell added 19 points and 2 assists as they each played over 40 minutes. Garvey also scored 12 points with 8 boards and a block and steal wjhile fellow forward MAtthew Cleveland tallied 9 points and 5 rebounds with a block.
Off the bench, freshman wing Cori Miller totaled 15 points, 6 rebounds, three 3-pointers, and 2 steals while L. Cargile and J. Simpson combined for 11 points and 5 assists as well as 3 blocks from Cargile. Jordan Miller also had 6 points and 4 assists.
Clinton is now 10-9 overall and 2-5 in the South Region of the NCCAA. Clinton will next return home to host Morris College on Wednesday at 7 pm.
