
ROCK HILL, S.C. - The Clinton College men's basketball team held off a scrappy first-year program defeating SC Central Christian College 93-80 from Rock Hill Tuesday night.
SCCC, a team from the NSAC Conference in Cayce, SC, got out to a quick 7-0 lead on the Golden Bears before Clinton rallied to tie it at 15 apiece at the 11-minute mark. The Gladiators (0-2) would again lead 23-19 with 9 minutes to play before the Bears found their rhythm and finished the half on a 32-11 run to take a 51-34 lead at the break.
In the second half, SCCC would continue to slowly chip away at the Clinton lead climbing to within as little as 3 points at 81-78 at the 5 minute mark. The Bears, though, would then finish the game on a 12-2 run to clinch their 3rd win.
Clinton was led by 29 points from wing Isaiah Borders on 11 of 19 shooting while he pulled down 8 rebounds, 4 assists and a block. Sophomore guard Jordan Snipes Campbell also came within a rebound of a triple-double as he compiled 21 points (7 of 11), with 11 assists, 9 rebounds and 2 steals.
The power forward duo of Devinir Garvey and Jaden Scriven also scored in double figures each as they combined for 26 points and 15 rebounds with Garvey recording a double-double of 15 pts and 10 boards along with 2 ast and 2 blocks. The underclassmen trio of Taylan Hicks, David Adeyeri, and Zion Kemp also combined for 13 points and 9 rebounds off the bench with Hicks adding 3 assists and a block.
The Bears will next remain home to host Mid-Atlantic Christian (NC) on Saturday at 5:30 PM.
