
ROCK HILL, SC - The Clinton College men's basketball team pulled away late in the second half to hold off a scrappy Atlantis University (FL) squad 102-94 Friday evening from Rock Hill.
Atlantis jumped out to an early 19-11 lead in the first seven minutes before Clinton went on an impressive 17-0 run over the next five minutes to suddenly take a 28-19 lead. CC then went up by six (39-33) with just over 4 minutes to play in the half before AU closed the period on a 12-5 run to take a one-point lead at the break.
In the second half, Clinton would come out strong starting the half on a 16-6 run to take a nine-point edge at 60-51 with 15 minutes to play. Clinton then took their largest lead of the game at 75-61 at the 11-minute mark but the Atlantaens would not go away going on a 26-10 run over the next six minutes to take an 87-85 lead. However, CC closed out the game with a 17-7 run to clinch their second win.
Sophomore wing Isaiah Borders led the Golden Bears with a career-high of 33 points on 11 of 16 shooting with four 3-pointers, 5 rebounds, two assists, a steal and a block while freshman shooting guard Cori Miller tallied 21 points on 8 of 9 shooting including going 4 for 4 from three-point range. Junior point guard Jordan Snipes Campbell also added 20 points with 9 rebounds and 8 assists.
Junior forward Devinir Garvey also finished in double figures scoring 15 points with 7 boards, 3 assists and 4 blocks. The Bears shot 51.5 percent overall and 41 percent from behind the arc, but struggled from the free throw line (54%) which allowed AU to climb back into the game.
The Bear men improve to 2-1 on the season and will next be in action on Tuesday when they remain home to host SC Central Christian College at 7:00 PM
