WAU Rallies Late to Stun Clinton Men

TAKOMA PARK, MD - The Clinton College men's basketball team suffered a tough defeat on the road at NAIA foe, Washington Adventist University on Saturday falling 113-109 in their regular season finale.

The Bears shot nearly 55 percent in the first half en route to a 57-48 lead at the break.  The second half saw the Bears shoot just 45 percent while WAU shot nearly an incredible 70 percent from the floor to outscore Clinton 65-52. Clinton led throughout the second half including their biggest margin at 96-83 with 8 minutes to play. WAU then trimmed the Bears' lead down to four with under 2 minutes to play at 109-105. WAU went on a game-ending 30-13 run over the final 8 minutes to steal the win.

Clinton was led by senior leading-scorer Cam Shannon as the guard tallied 34 points on 12 of 18 shooting over 40 minutes along with 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 5 steals. Senior forward Isaiah Stone then finished with 24 points and four rebounds on 9 of 15 shooting while senior point guard RJ Bell also had a quality all-around game even as he struggled with his shot on the night scoring 15 points, with 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals.

Senior guard Tyler Hammond then finished with 16 points and two steals while junior wing Jordan Maxwell had 7 points. Freshman forward Isaiah Borders also recorded 13 points and 4 steals off the bench.

Clinton Falls to 15-9 on the season but remains 8-1 in the NCCAA while WAU improves to 16-9 in the NAIA.

The Golden Bears will now have two weeks to await to find out their opponent and time when they host the NCCAA South Region tournament on March 11-12 from the Rock Hill Sports & Events Center. Paine College (11-12), Fort Lauderdale (13-10) and Columbia International (18-8) have all qualified for the regional.
