Golden Bear Men Outlast Fort Lauderdale

ROCK HILL, SC - The Clinton College men's basketball team outlasted NCCAA South Region foe Fort Lauderdale University in a high scoring shootout 121-110 at home Thursday night.

Clinton shot an impressive 65 percent in the first half en route to a 15-point halftime lead, 60-45. The teams then put on an offensive "all-star game-like" showing in the second half as the two schools combined for 126 points with the Eagles winning the half 65-61 after Clinton had built a 24-point lead. The Bears led 111-86 with 3:27 to play before UFTL went on a 24-8 run to climb to within single digits with under a minute left, but CC held them off for the win.

Clinton shot an extremely efficient 76 percent in the half while shooting 6 of 8 from three while totaling 10 threes on the game and an overall shooting percentage of 70.3 percent and 58 percent from three. The teams also combined for 51 fouls on the night and 69 free throw attempts.

Senior guard Cam Shannon led Clinton with 20 points on 9 of 11 shooting with 4 rebounds and 2 steals while senior point guard RJ Bell notched 7 assists with 19 points and 8 rebounds. Senior Forward Isaiah Stone played well in the middle totaling 16 points with 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 blocks.

Sophomore Guard Karter Allen also finished in double-digit points with 11 while senior guard Paul Eromosele and freshman wing Jacobi Simpson each scored 13 and 12 points respectively off the bench as Clinton put six players in double-figures. Simpson also blocked two shots while freshman guard Colin Cowan and junior wing Jordan Maxwell combined for 17 points as well as all 11 Golden Bears scored on the night.

Clinton improves to 9-7 overall and 4-0 in the region while UFTL falls to 6-9. The Bears will next be in action on Saturday when they head north to face Virginia-Lynchburg University for a 2:00 pm tip.
