Tangela Faulkner was named head volleyball coach at Clinton College (SC) in August of 2023 and is heading into her second season at the helm.
Last season, Faulkner helped lead the Lady Bears to the NCCAA National Tournament while recording their most wins in a season (12) in school history.
As her way of giving back to the volleyball world, Coach Faulkner uses her vast love for coaching, over 12 years of experience, to assist more than 50 student-athletes on the collegiate level.
Before arriving at Clinton, Faulkner was named Coach of the Year in the Quad County 3A Division while coaching at West Johnston High School in Benson, NC.
"We are extremely excited to have Coach Tangela Faulkner, our new Head Women's Volleyball Coach, join our team in the Division of Student Success and the Clinton College family," said Dr. Angelyne Brown, Vice President of Student Success/Dean of Students. "Coach Faulkner brings a great wealth of knowledge and genuine energy to the volleyball program. We know our students and the campus community will benefit greatly from her commitment to excellence and dedication to preparing our student-athletes to win on and off the court."
A University of Mount Olive graduate, Faulkner is in the Athletics Hall of Fame as a two-time all-conference honoree for both basketball and volleyball. She was ranked fifth in the nation for basketball in scoring with a school record of 22.4 points per game while averaging over 9 rebounds per game as a junior. Faulkner also scored a total of 605 points in one season, the second-highest total in school history. Faulkner became the only Trojan women's basketball player to score 1,000 points in two seasons.
In her volleyball career, Faulkner led her team in kills and blocks during her junior year. She finished second in the conference in hitting percentage and fifth in kills as a senior, helping UMO win its only volleyball conference championship.
"This is my ministry, and I want to equip young athletes with the same tools that someone equipped me with," said Coach Faulkner. "If God hadn't blessed me with a full scholarship, I would never have been able to attend college," Faulkner said in discussing her reason for why she became a coach. "I want to help every child I impact have the same opportunity!"
