
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Clinton College men's basketball team went 2-1 on the week playing all three games on the road winning at Carolina University (N.C.) on Wednersday 79-76 before falling to NCAA Div. II Southern Wesleyan (S.C.) 86-83 on Thursday. They then ended the week with a 97-88 win over Morris College on Saturday in Sumter.
In the win over CU, the Bears were led by four in double-figures including a team-best 19 points from freshman wing Cori Miller off the bench. Junior guard and captain Jordan Snipes Campbell also recorded a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds with 4 assists while forwards Matthew Cleveland and Devinir Garvey scored 15 and 16 points respectively. Garvey added 6 boards, 5 assits, 2 steals and 2 blocks as well.
Senior wing Jordan Maxwell and guard Jordan Miller also combined for 13 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals while Maxwell blocked two shots. Clinton shot 50 percent from the floor overall but just 23 percent from three while Carolina made 13 threes shooting nearly 40 percent. Clinton led 38-33 at halftime and held off CU in the second half as the Bruins outscored CC 43-41.
In the 3-point loss at SWU on Thursday, Clinton was led by Garvey's double-double of 15 points and 13 rebounds along with his 3 assists, 3 steals, and 2 blocks while fellow forward, Matt Cleveland led the team with 18 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals. Maxwell was also in double-figures finishing with 13 points, 7 rebounds, 2 steals and a block while Jordan Snipes had 8 points and 6 assists. Soph Wing Jacobi Simpson added 11 points off the bench as well.
Clinton led 41-35 at the break but SWU outscored the Bears 52-41 in the second half to hang on for the victory. Clinton shot 43.5% from the fioor, 26 percent from three and 72 percent from the free-throw line.
The Bears then ousted Morris by 9 Saturday with stats to come later on.
Clinton is now 10-7 on the season and 2-2 in the South Region and will next be on the road at Voorhees Univ. in SC on Monday night at 8 pm.
