Kean University graduate 1992. former basketball D-3 standout at Kean. inducted into Kean Hall of Fame in 2002.
A three-time All-New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) honoree, Herman Alston ended his four years on the hardwood for the Cougars in possession of most Kean University men's basketball scoring records. His 2,257 career points are fourth overall in New Jersey history and 10th all time in NCAA Division III competition.

Alston set a single-season scoring mark for the Cougars, amassing 736 points during the 1988-1989 campaign that also saw him establish Kean single-season records with 321 field goals, a 25.4 scoring average and a single-game total of 45. Along the way, he led the Cougars to the 1989 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) championship with a 19-10 record.

While leading his teams to a 70-40 overall record during his time at Kean, Alston was honored as the NJAC, New Jersey Basketball Coaches Association and Metropolitan Writers Association Player of the Year in 1991, a season that also saw the Cougars claim the NJAC championship and reach the NCAA quarterfinals. His team also qualified for the ECAC tournament in 1990.

Alston graduated from Kean in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science degree in management science.
